Beyond The States Expands Platform as More Americans Look to Europe for College
Beyond The States now connects U.S. students with 13,000+ English-taught degrees, admissions guidance, study abroad, gap year and essential resources abroad.
Europe is becoming a real alternative to the traditional U.S. college path. Our goal is to make finding, applying to and attending these universities dramatically easier.”
CA, UNITED STATES, September 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- As American families reconsider the rising cost of a traditional U.S. college education, Europe is increasingly becoming part of the conversation. Beyond The States is expanding its platform to make finding, comparing, applying to and ultimately attending a European university significantly easier for U.S. students.— Kristin Hamaker
The Beyond The States database now includes more than 13,000 English-taught bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at universities across Europe, allowing students to compare options by country, subject, tuition, admissions requirements and other factors that can be difficult to research independently.
The expansion comes as international education continues to grow among American students. According to the Institute of International Education, more than 95,000 Americans are enrolled in full-degree programs abroad. Separately, 298,180 U.S. students studied abroad for academic credit during the 2023/24 academic year, a 6% increase from the previous year. Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and France were the four leading study abroad destinations.
At the same time, the cost of attending college in the United States remains substantial. College Board reports that average published tuition and fees for the 2025/26 academic year are $31,880 for an out-of-state student at a public four-year institution and $45,000 at a private nonprofit four-year institution. When housing, food and other expenses are included, average annual student budgets rise to $50,920 and $65,470, respectively.
For families who may never have considered an international university, discovering English-taught bachelor’s degrees in Europe can dramatically expand the range of options available.
“There are incredible university opportunities across Europe that many American families simply don’t know exist,” said James Edge, founder of Beyond The States. “Students shouldn’t have to search dozens of university websites just to figure out which programs are taught in English, what they cost, what the admissions requirements are and whether they’re eligible.”
Beyond The States was created to bring that information together in one place. Students can research universities in Europe, compare degree programs and explore factors ranging from tuition and admissions requirements to location, student life and cost of living.
The platform is also expanding beyond traditional bachelor’s and master’s degree searches. Students can now explore study abroad opportunities, gap year programs and scholarships, while new Student Essentials resources help families navigate practical considerations such as student housing, health insurance, banking, mobile phone service and transportation in Europe.
For students pursuing a full degree abroad, Beyond The States also provides admissions guidance designed specifically around the European university process. Families who are unsure where to begin can speak with a Beyond The States advisor through a free college admissions strategy call to discuss a student’s goals, academic background and potential options in Europe.
“Our goal is to make studying in Europe feel like a realistic college option rather than an overwhelming alternative,” Edge said. “Finding the university is only one part of the process. Families need to understand admissions, affordability, housing and what actually happens when a student moves overseas. We’re building Beyond The States to help with that entire journey.”
Beyond The States works with students and families at different stages of the college search, from those who are just beginning to explore European universities to students who want personalized assistance identifying universities and completing applications.
